Beat the Tolls: Find a Job in Loudoun County

On December 4, 2017, the new express lanes opened on I-66 and dramatically changed the commuting patterns in the Washington, D.C. region.

On Day 1, Northern Virginia commuters paid up to $34.50 to drive 10 miles, one-way into the city. On Day 2, that number rose to $40.

As the New York Times’ Maggie Astor quipped:

If you took a bus from New York to Washington tomorrow, a 230-mile drive, and then turned around and came back, you still might not spend as much as Virginians paid on Tuesday to drive there from 10 miles away.

If you live in Loudoun County, there has never been a better time to look for a job closer to home.

According to a 2016 survey of Loudoun residents, 51 percent of Loudoun residents commute to outside of the county for employment. Of those, nearly all are subject to toll roads, traffic congestion and paid parking.

Isn’t it time for a change?

Loudoun County is creating jobs faster than almost any other jurisdiction in the U.S. In August, 23 Loudoun businesses were named to the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing businesses.
