December 10: 1000 Miglia Warm Up USA

The 1000 Miglia Warm Up USA is one of the many gifts of Loudoun that can bring us together. This is one story in a series of 31 that highlight #LoudounPossible opportunities in the county. Check back every day in December to learn more!

Pronti, partenza, via (ready, set, go)!

With a population of less than 700 and the town just over one square mile, Middleburg may be small, but it has a pretty significant international connection. What has been coined “the most beautiful auto race in the world,” Italy’s 1000 Miglia returned to Middleburg this year! The 1000 Miglia Warm Up USA is a qualifying event for the Italian race, where 30 cars compete for eight spots in the 1000 Miglia 2023 in Italy next May. The event features cars in two classes: the 1000 Miglia Era Class, which are 1000 Miglia-eligible cars, built between 1927 and 1957 and the Post-1000 Era Class, which are sports cars, grand touring, and supercars built from 1958 to present.

The event has a nearly century-old, rich history in Italy, defining passion for the sport and culture of its origin. In true fashion, residents, visitors, and sports enthusiasts gather to see the cars on display, meet the drivers, and attend a street festival. They can also see the cars off as they line up for the 500-mile race, which ends on Italian soil at the Italian Embassy in Washington, D.C.

The 2022 winner received the Coppa USA (USA Cup), automatically qualified for the 1000 Miglia 2023 in Italy, and in true Italian tradition, a pair of limited edition Chopard watches.
