December 29: Sister Cities
Our Sister Cities, Counties, and partnerships are one of the many gifts of Loudoun this holiday season. This is one story in a series of 31 that highlight #LoudounPossible opportunities in the county. Check back every day in December to learn more!
Loudoun knows a thing or two about being unique. The county is a regional, national, and international leader in economic and business success while still offering a first-class quality of life. Loudoun leads the Commonwealth in business growth and purchasing power and it is not only the safest, but also the fastest-growing county in the state. The winery and brewery scene is the best in the region, “Data Center Alley” is the largest concentration of data centers in the world, and the diverse makeup of farm owners and the various types of farms lead to the county’s agricultural excellence.
The culmination of these factors make up the uniqueness of Loudoun, but we are not alone when it comes to being distinct. Our global partnerships and Sister Cities and Counties around the world stand out for similar reasons. While the list below speaks to our existing relationships, Loudoun aims to develop more of these partnerships in the future.
Gangneung City, South Korea: This Friendship City attracts tourists and is the economic center of its region. Like Loudoun, Gangneung City seeks to commemorate and preserve its heritage.
Goyang City, South Korea: This Sister City has a vibrant agricultural industry, and its tourism is growing.
Holmes County, Mississippi: This Sister County partnership began in 2022 and will work together on building “beneficial exchanges between schools, cultures, business relationships, as well as connections between citizens and the institutions designed to serve them.”
Karşıyaka/Izmir, Turkey: This Sister County/City has an active center of commerce and tourism. Like Loudoun, Karşıyaka is recognized as having one of the highest overall levels of education and has a large sports culture.
Main-Taunus-Kreis, Hessen (Frankfurt), Germany: This partner county is located near a major international city, has excellent schools, and robust conditions that attract business and supports economic development.
New Taipei City, Banqiao District, Taiwan: Technology, service, and tourism are among the major industries that offer abundant employment opportunities in this Sister City. The Sister County relationship involves mutually beneficial cooperation and exchanges in key areas of business, culture, history, and education, including a government career exploration program.
