December 9: 60 Years of Dulles
60 years of Dulles is one of the many gifts of Loudoun this holiday season. This is one story in a series of 31 that highlight #LoudounPossible opportunities in the county. Check back every day in December to learn more!
Since rolling out the gangway and receiving its first commercial flight from Newark in 1962, Dulles has made a significant economic impact in Loudoun. “A lot of people say that the airport is the economic driver of the region,” said Richard Golinowski, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Vice President and Manager of Dulles Airport. “…I always say we can’t be the economic driver unless we have partners.”
Dulles has helped to make Loudoun the opportunity-rich destination that it is today. The Silver Line extension of the Metro is aiding travelers from Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC with non-road travel to the airport and surrounding Loudoun entities and communities. What’s more, with over 23 million travelers per year, Dulles grants Loudoun access to the rest of the country and the world and aids in solidifying market access and international relationships for Loudoun businesses. The gift of 60 years of contributions to the economy, workforce, and international business are just a handful of the reasons that we are grateful to have a partner like Dulles, here in Loudoun. Golinowski continued, “And as partners, the leading partner is Loudoun County. We are not where we are today without Loudoun,” and likewise, we are not where we are today, without Dulles.
