Farm Breweries and a Wine Workforce Center – DED in the News

- Loudoun’s wine industry has exploded over the past several years, so farm breweries seemed like the next logical step. Recently, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors passed an ordinance allowing farm breweries in the county. In the first few weeks, six farm breweries applied for zoning permits.
- Not to be outdone, Loudoun’s wineries are looking beyond Virginia and aiming to become global players. A Virginia Tech study says that opening a wine workforce education center would help give Loudoun the boost it needs to improve quality and marketing and appeal to wine aficionados around the world.
- Wine isn’t the only area in which Loudoun is looking globally: The Loudoun Department of Economic Development continues to bring American businesses into the county, but is looking more and more toward foreign investment, aligning with one of the Board of Supervisors’ stated goals for 2015.
