Groundbreaking for the third phase of the Northwoods business park located in Loudoun’s Dulles District began on Tuesday morning with a ceremony with business leaders, elected officials and county staff.

This phase will bring five new industrial buildings totaling more than 520,000 square feet to a project that will include 2.1 million square feet upon completion.

It is through this type of development that Loudoun County continues to keep up with demand from businesses, which support an increasing share of the county budget.

“We’re very fortunate that here in Loudoun County, we have had a pretty good run over the last 10 years,” said Loudoun County Economic Development Executive Director Buddy Rizer. “In [the last] 10 years, we’ve reduced the [tax] impact on our residents significantly.

“When I first came on board 10 years, it was around 21 percent of the entire tax base was commercial. As we sit here today, we’ve increased that to 30 percent.

“Those are some very significant gains, and it’s through the work of people like you,” he said, indicating business leaders in attendance. “We do believe that this type of project is exactly what we’re looking for here in Loudoun County … what we’re focused on is the economic diversity.”

Among the many location advantages of Northwoods are Dulles International Airport, the Dulles Greenway and Route 50, all located within one mile.
