Important Study Shows Impact of Loudoun Data Centers

An important new study shows the tremendous impact of data centers at both the state and local level. For example, for every dollar in county services data centers require, they provide an estimated $9.50 in revenue to Loudoun County.
In addition, the study says that data centers also feed the talent pipeline for other fast-growing, high-wage local industries.
“We have long known that data centers are one of the top economic drivers in Virginia, and in Loudoun County in particular,” says Loudoun Economic Development’s Executive Director Buddy Rizer. “The contribution these businesses make to our community allows the county to keep taxes low for citizens and provide stellar support to Loudoun residents in terms of public safety, schools, transportation and other critical public services.
“Data centers have become intrinsic to Loudoun’s quality of life, and we must continue to make Loudoun and Virginia a hospitable business environment for them. I’m gratified to see that the independent research my department cosponsored with the NVTC and other key stakeholders resulted in a study that clearly shows the necessary role data centers play in our commonwealth.”
With more than 60 data centers located within a six-mile radius of Ashburn, Loudoun County is the #1 data center hub in the U.S. More than 70 percent of the world’s Internet traffic flows through Loudoun data centers every day.
