Recently, DED’s business development officer, Jim Herbert, spoke to the Leesburg Rotary Club about Loudoun’s future. Herbert focused on Loudoun’s many attributes, including our young, highly educated workforce, our access to global markets through Dulles International Airport, and our appealing mix of agriculture and technology. He also took the time to outline the department’s goals for the county. Topping the list is expanding the commercial tax base from from $337 million to $600 million by FY2018. Reaching this goal will give Loudoun a diverse tax/revenue portfolio, making us better equipped to weather economic downturns. This will also benefit residents by making the county less dependent on residential real property tax. Within the next five to ten years, Herbert believes that Loudoun will continue to see strong activity in the information and communications technology sector, data center expansion into non-contiguous facilities and advanced technology manufacturing.
