Leesburg’s Newest Haven of Grounded Hospitality is Stable and Vine
Magic happens when history, community, and thoughtful design come together.
If you’ve driven past the former Dry Mill Vineyard & Winery in Leesburg recently, you might have noticed a bit of an evolution. Once an abandoned vineyard barn and overgrown house, the property is stepping into a new chapter as Stable & Vine, a fresh Bed & Breakfast and boutique gathering space that officially launches on September 3.
Brought to life by the team behind Northern Virginia’s Root & Stem catering company, owners Craig and Gaby Currie, alongside Innkeeper Benjamin Picado and Marketing Manager Taylor Feder, Stable & Vine was born out of a desire to create a sanctuary for locals and visiting guests alike. After years of catering events in venues with strict rules, the property gives the team a unique canvas. “We have an opportunity to be kids and be playful,” Ben shares, reflecting on the freedom to build a space with its own character.
The goal of the Stable & Vine team was never to erase its history, but rather to honor and elevate it. The exterior structure of the historic barn retains its original character; an intentional choice by the team to retain a recognizable landmark in the community. The nearby Hound’s House, once used by The Hunt, was restored from an overgrown kennel into a cozy, dog-friendly retreat. The renovation was a true family affair. Ben worked alongside his contractor father to complete the structural transformation, closing in the top of the barn to build upstairs accommodations, while his mother, an interior designer, designed the space. Nods to the land’s history appear throughout the property, including original Dry Mill Winery signs and repurposed wine bottles found scattered across the grounds during renovation.
The team defines their approach of “grounded hospitality” as an experience that offers the high-end touches of a boutique hotel, paired with the warmth of visiting an old friend. Every room has its own personality inspired by the region’s agricultural roots, including the Cask Room, Vintner’s Suite, Harvest Room, and Dogwood Room. Each accommodation features plenty of natural light, Bluetooth speakers, custom coffee setups, and complimentary laundry. Guests also have access to the Club Room, a shared social space with a wine bar and balcony, as well as a central communal kitchen where breakfast is served daily, courtesy of Root & Stem.
When it came to furnishing the building, the team was intentional in styling over time and avoiding catalog-bought products. “The furniture has to find us,” Ben explains. “We want something to make us laugh.” Taylor echoes this sentiment, emphasizing that the focus is on curated, meaningful choices rather than instant perfection. “It doesn’t have to be perfectly manicured,” Taylor adds. “We’d rather wait for the right piece of art.”
Beyond the accommodations, Stable & Vine is deeply rooted in land stewardship. Taylor, who holds a Master’s in sustainability management, emphasizes the importance of respecting the surrounding environment and letting mother nature lead the way. “We have a space here, but within that space we are amongst wildlife and they came first,” she notes. Wildlife is a constant, welcomed presence. Wild turkeys run along the access road and herds of deer graze the land. One family that stayed in the Hound’s House even had the opportunity to witness a doe give birth outside of their window.
The property isn’t limited solely to guests who pay to stay. Looking forward, the team plans to expand community connections through daytime events, goat yoga, and local partnerships including an onsite apiary with a local beekeeper to harvest honey.
Stable & Vine is designed to be a hidden gem and Leesburg’s missing piece. As an intimate event venue, The Commons area fits up to 50 indoors but when the doors are opened and it is combined with the outdoor space, The Garden Terrace, the area can fit up to 75. The Lawn, the property’s primary outdoor space, comfortably fits 150. The team envisions the accommodations to be a quiet staycation or a place to house visiting family during the holidays. As Ben puts it, “I hope that this is the sanctuary that people are looking for.”
