In less than 50 days, Loudoun United FC, the United Soccer League soccer team that calls Leesburg home, will open a brand new stadium at Philip A. Bolen Memorial Park.

The stadium will seat 5,000 fans and serve as a first-of-its-kind facility in Loudoun County, with extensive plans for use by the community.

With the USL soccer league schedule already underway, Loudoun United has played “home” games in other venues around the D.C. region.

The first time they will step on the pitch in Leesburg will be at 7:30 p.m. on August 9 vs. Charlotte Independence. As it currently stands, Loudoun United is ahead of Charlotte in the standings.

“I think it’s something that we’ve all been looking forward to,” said United defender Peabo Doue, about the new stadium. “We’ve had the date circled on our calendars. It’s been a long time coming, playing on the road, but I think we’re all ready to get home.”

Teammate Connor Presley added: “It will be exciting to have our own home and have our first game out there in front of our fans in Loudoun.”

The stadium is being constructed modularly–built off-site and shipped in for final assembly on site–while the final touches are made on the property. The land has undergone dramatic change since the ground was first broken earlier this year.

This weekend was the first time that turf was rolled out on the stadium, giving it time to take root before the rest of the stadium is built around it:

In addition to the stadium, the team will construct 40,000 square feet of office space and four full-sized soccer fields. This will lead to the creation of 50 new jobs.

As part of the deal, Loudoun United will lease county-owned land at Philip A. Bolen Park in Leesburg, and debt finance $15 million to construct the stadium. Parent club D.C. United will pay rent that covers the financing and interest, with a lease for 40 years and an option for extensions.

After the stadium opens, Loudoun United will call the stadium home for 15 home games each season. That’s 15 times each year that fans, officials and opposing teams will utilize Loudoun’s hotels, restaurants and retail.

That has everyone rightfully excited.

“We’re all really excited and looking forward to it. We’ve been looking forward to it ever since we saw the plans at the start of the season,” Loudoun United forward Kyle Murphy said. “We’re looking forward to getting in front of our home base out there and making it easier for the fans to watch us.

“It’s going to be a good experience, overall.”
