Loudoun, Virginia: Good for Data Centers; Good for the FBI

It’s no accident that Loudoun, Virginia is known as “The bullseye of America’s Internet.” Loudoun’s vast greenfield opportunities, inexpensive utility costs, and abundance of fiber have made us a premier data center location. Heavy hitters in the industry, including Equinix, RagingWire and Latisys, have all made Loudoun home to their state-of-the-art facilities. Many of the same considerations that bring these companies here year after year can also apply to the site selection of the new FBI headquarters.

While many local jurisdictions have been able to offer one or two potential sites, Loudoun has eight sites that offer the room for growth and security that the FBI will need. According to Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Chairman Scott York, the sites “offer the lowest cost per square foot, and the highest flexibility, of any sites under consideration for the new FBI headquarters.”

Department of Economic Development Assistant Director Buddy Rizer lists Loudoun County’s commitment to business as another strong asset, saying, “we understand how important time to market is. That’s why we offer personalized service and have worked hard to streamline the permitting and zoning processes.”

The benefits of locating in Loudoun extend to FBI employees as well. Loudoun offers a lower cost of living than inside the Beltway, along with an unmatched quality of life. Plus, all of the proposed sites are within a mile from a future Silver Line Metro stop, making Loudoun closer than ever to everything our region has to offer.

In the video below, Loudoun Economic Development’s Business Officer Jim Herbert talks more about why Loudoun has all of the resources for both data centers and the new FBI headquarters.
