Loudoun Economic Development and Safe Ship Ashburn invite the Loudoun business community and the public to Safe Ship’s grand opening on Friday, August 8 at noon at 44190 Waxpool Road in Ashburn. The event will include giveaways, grilled hot dogs and hamburgers, and demonstrations of how Safe Ship can make customized boxes for overseas shipping.

Safe Ship is a nationally-franchised chain of shipping and packaging stores, and it has signed a lease with St. John Properties for 5,520 square feet of space in Ashburn Technology Park.

The president of Safe Ship Ashburn, Anthony McKenzie, is a Loudoun County resident. In choosing to locate his business in Loudoun, McKenzie stated:

“Dulles International Airport has been the major fuel for the massive growth of Loudoun County, and with our business geared towards servicing the clients that work out of Dulles, we at Safe Ship feel like Loudoun is the perfect fit.”

He explained that Safe Ship has partnered with the U.S. Postal Service, FedEx, UPS and DHL. Because they ship more than 200,000 packages annually, Safe Ship can command deep discounts from “The Big Four,” which they pass along to the consumer.

“With our patented Box Maker Pro, we can make a heavy-duty box to spec for any item. This saves customers money because now they don’t have to spend more on shipping larger boxes that may not snuggly fit their items,” McKenzie said.

Loudoun Economic Development Director Buddy Rizer said that Safe Ship’s decision to locate in the county is further evidence of Loudoun’s place as a logistics hub.

“Loudoun has a strong entrepreneurial community, with more than 8,000 small businesses. Many of these companies could grow exponentially by expanding into overseas markets. Small businesses can use Safe Ship to send prototypes and samples to potential customers outside the U.S. Companies like Safe Ship are a vital piece to the logistics infrastructure that makes Loudoun such an important economic hub in the mid-Atlantic,” Rizer said.
