Celebrating 20 Years of Signatures of Loudoun.

“For 20 years, Signatures of Loudoun has been a reminder that good design is good business.” – Design Cabinet Chair Alan Hansen

“Our high-quality built environment reinforces Loudoun’s identity, quality of life and economic development. Great communities don’t just happen, so we strive to honor and recognize those demonstrating the best design in the county.”

Details

This is where design meets delight. It’s about the little things: the creative touches, the fine craftsmanship, or the spark of personality that makes a project unforgettable. These aren’t just finishing touches – they’re often the parts people remember most.

Winner: Hummingbirds Hideaway Treehouse

This playful, enchanting retreat nestled in the hills of western Loudoun features artisan craftsmanship, clever reuse of materials, and a sense of surprise that captivated the Design Cabinet.

Contextual Design

Winning projects in this category feel like they’ve always been part of the landscape. Whether it’s a historic area or a brand-new development, these designs blend seamlessly into their surroundings, honoring what’s around them while still standing out in their own right.

Winner: Birkby House Conservatory

This thoughtful addition to one of Leesburg’s most beloved historic homes blends seamlessly with the original structure and surrounding garden, respecting its Federal style while meeting modern needs.

Infrastructure

The unsung hero of good design. These are the bones of our county: the roads, the safety centers, the foundational projects that support everything else we build. Just because it’s functional doesn’t mean it can’t also be thoughtful and beautiful.

Winner: Sterling Park Safety Center

This long-anticipated project unifies public safety services in a facility that reflects the modern style and needs of the Sterling community and the bravery of those who serve it.

Infrastructure

The unsung hero of good design. These are the bones of our county: the roads, the safety centers, the foundational projects that support everything else we build. Just because it’s functional doesn’t mean it can’t also be thoughtful and beautiful.

Winner: Leesburg Streetscape Improvements

Downtown Leesburg’s refreshed streetscapes marry history with accessibility, providing pedestrian-friendly charm, improved infrastructure, and beautiful access points for downtown Leesburg.

Interiors

We all know how good design affects how a space feels. This category recognizes excellence in interior design, blending comfort, beauty, and function.

Winner: Dental Smiles at Purcellville Gateway

This thoughtfully designed space blends a calming palette with patient-first functionality, proving that good design enhances even the most routine environments. The Design Cabinet highlighted the reclaimed wood accents and sinks made from local pottery as standout details.

Pace Setters

This category highlights bold, forward-thinking projects that show where Loudoun is headed next. These are the buildings and spaces that push boundaries, challenge assumptions, and help shape the future of our built environment.

Winner: Equinix DC21 Exterior

Equinix DC21 challenges assumptions— elevating data center design through striking façade uplighting that transforms the exterior into a nighttime landmark, merging infrastructure with civic art.

Pace Setters

This category highlights bold, forward-thinking projects that show where Loudoun is headed next. These are the buildings and spaces that push boundaries, challenge assumptions, and help shape the future of our built environment.

Winner: Philip A. Bolen Memorial Park Restroom and Concession Facilities

This project proves that even essential park amenities can demonstrate architectural care, environmental sensitivity, and community-first planning.

Public Spaces

These are the places where people gather—parks, plazas, greenways—where design creates community. When these spaces are done right, they become the heart of a neighborhood. This year’s winner shows exactly how that’s done.

Winner: Mervin Jackson Park East End

Named in honor of a beloved local leader, this inviting pocket park in Leesburg’s East End offers a cherished gathering space complete with a donated piano that fills the air with unexpected moments of music and connection.

Students’ Choice Award

Including students in this process isn’t just symbolic—they are the future of design in Loudoun.

Winner: Hummingbirds Hideaway Treehouse

The students appreciated the creativity, craftsmanship, and immersive experience offered by this project—and noted how it blends imagination with Loudoun’s natural beauty.
