Apply for Open REDC Seats to Support Loudoun’s Rural Businesses
If you have a passion for supporting Loudoun’s diverse rural industries and would like to give back to your community, please apply for open seats on the Rural Economic Development Council.
The REDC is comprised of Loudoun business owners and stakeholders, advising Loudoun Economic Development on promoting the growth and vitality of the county’s agriculture and other rural industries. REDC members are expected to be advocates and liaisons for their specific industries.
“Loudoun County has long been an agricultural leader and we see that extending far into the future. The best way to preserve Loudoun’s farm heritage is to make it economically feasible for landowners,” Loudoun Economic Development’s Executive Director Buddy Rizer said. “We look to the REDC as a solutions-oriented body that helps make rural business success #LoudounPossible.”
There are eight REDC appointments with terms expiring on December 31, 2020. Loudoun County seeks candidates with the following expertise:
- Production agriculture;
- Rural-based business;
- Agribusiness;
- Wine industry;
- Equine industry;
- Environmental resources;
- Education;
- Historic tourism
The most recent USDA Ag Census counted more than 1,200 commercial farms in Loudoun, in addition to hundreds of other businesses supported by agriculture. Following the adoption of the county’s new Comprehensive Plan, now is a crucial time to guide its implementation for farms and rural businesses.
“REDC’s mission is to promote the growth and vitality of Loudoun’s rural industries through recommendations to the Board of Supervisors, offering support and advice to the Department of Economic Development,” said Loudoun’s Business Development Officer of Agriculture and Business Services John Magistro. “In the wake of COVID-19, we expect REDC to play a hands-on role in diversifying and strengthening Loudoun’s economy.”
In order to be considered, applicants must submit:
- An online standard application at https://lfportal.loudoun.gov/Forms/AdvisoryApp ;
- A letter of interest and a resume, sent to the Office of the Board of Supervisors AND to the Department of Economic Development, via postal mail or email.
