Calling All Farmers: Loudoun Economic Development Accepting Applications for the 2013 Fall Farm Tour
The Loudoun County Department of Economic Development has started planning for the 2013 Fall Farm Tour, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20. The Fall Farm Tour is held annually and is a free, self-guided tour showcasing local, active farms in Loudoun County.
The goal of the Fall Farm Tour is to promote Loudoun County’s farms and agricultural community by sponsoring a weekend tourism event to increase awareness and educate the public about agriculture and Loudoun’s rural economy. The weekend event is also used as a teaching mechanism to inform consumers of what products are grown and available locally. Last year’s tour yielded more than 8,000 visitors to the 49 participating farms, and an estimated $62,000 in revenue of gross product sales for the weekend.
Farmers who would like to participate are encouraged to review the tour policies and guidelines and complete the online application. Completed applications must be received at the Department of Economic Development by close of business Friday, August 23, 2013.
Brochures for the Fall Farm Tour, including a map and directions to all participating farms, will be available at Loudoun County libraries, community centers, Visit Loudoun and the Government Center in Leesburg. Detailed tour information is also available at www.LoudounFarms.org.
