Carfax to Expand Data Center Operations in Loudoun County
Governor Terry McAuliffe announced today that Carfax will invest $10.8 million to upgrade its data center operation in Loudoun County, Virginia.
“We applaud Carfax for expanding their operations in Loudoun County’s ‘Data Center Alley,’ one of the most important I.T. neighborhoods in the world,” said Loudoun Economic Development’s Executive Director Buddy Rizer.
Carfax helps consumers, dealers, insurers, law enforcement, and the automotive industry buy, own and sell used cars. The company’s database has more than 15 billion vehicle history records from more than 92,000 sources worldwide, and handles almost 3 million requests for vehicle history information every day.
Carfax is one of more than 3,000 corporations using data center space in Loudoun, part of what was recently named by Data Center Dynamics as “the number one area for data center building in the U.S.” More than 60 data centers are currently housed in more than 6 million square feet of data center space within a six-mile radius of Ashburn, Virginia, with another 3 million square feet under construction. More than 70 percent of the world’s Internet traffic passes through Loudoun County data centers every day.
At the same time that Carfax is expanding its data center operations in Loudoun, it’s also investing $5 million to expand its headquarters in neighboring Fairfax County, creating 120 new jobs.
“This is a great example of how the Commonwealth and neighboring jurisdictions can work together to provide the right solutions to help a great company like Carfax grow in Virginia,” Rizer said.
