The Loudoun, Virginia Department of Economic Development is pleased to announce that the Board of Directors of the International Economic Development Council has re-elected Thomas M. Flynn to its Board of Directors for a two-year term.

“The IEDC is the world’s premier organization helping economic development professionals create vibrant communities and improve the quality of life in their regions,” Flynn explained. “I’m very honored to have been re-elected to serve my profession in this role.”

As director of economic development for Loudoun County, Flynn leads a staff of 20 professionals responsible for business recruitment, retention and expansion, as well as rural economic development.

“We can all feel proud when outside organizations recognize the expertise of our department heads,” said Loudoun County Administrator Tim Hemstreet. “Tom has only been with Loudoun for two years, but during that short time we’ve had an impressive number of new businesses move to Loudoun, or expand their operations in the county. We’ve also enjoyed the creation of thousands of new jobs. I congratulate Tom on his re-election to the IEDC Board.”

In addition to serving on the IEDC Board, Flynn has been a member of several Urban Land Institute Advisory Panels, and he teaches the IEDC course “Managing Economic Development Organizations.” Flynn received his undergraduate degree from Kalamazoo College and his MPA from the LBJ School of Public Affairs, University of Texas at Austin. He has also earned the designation of a certified economic developer by the IEDC.
