Forum for Farmers to Show Innovative Ways to Maximize Profits

Loudoun Economic Development is joining other regional partners in hosting the 15th annual Forum for Sustaining Agriculture, the area’s top conference for the sustainable agriculture community. Participants will enjoy engaging panels, technical and issue-oriented breakout sessions, exhibitors and networking opportunities.
Formerly known as the Forum for Rural Innovation, this event will be held on Friday, March 8 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Clarion Inn and Conference Center in Winchester, Virginia. The deadline to register is Wednesday, March 6 at biz.loudoun.gov/Forum.
“Part of our mission is to give our farmers as many tools as possible so they can be viable farming their land. The forum showcases new and exciting programs and techniques that help make growing food both sustainable and profitable,” announced Loudoun Economic Development Executive Director Buddy Rizer. “I always say that successful farming operations are one of the best land conservation tools we have, and the forum is focused entirely on helping our landowners keep their farmland, farmland.”
This year’s speakers include working farmers, educators, agents from 4-H and Future Farmers of America, and the Smithsonian Institution. The registration fee ($45 for adults; $20 for students) includes breakfast and lunch featuring delicious, locally sourced food.
Interim Agriculture Development Officer Vanessa Wagener said, “The forum emphasizes innovative business opportunities, and the topics and exhibits will present practical strategies that can be adapted to most area farms. Attendees will get the chance to learn from some of the most progressive farmers, organizations and researchers in the nation.”
In addition to Loudoun Economic Development and the Loudoun Office of Virginia Cooperative Extension, the event is co-sponsored by Berkeley, Clarke, Fauquier, Jefferson and Prince William counties, along with the town of Berryville and the Blue Ridge Community and Technical College.
