Loudoun Display Opens at Dulles Airport
The Loudoun County Department of Economic Development, the Loudoun Design Cabinet and the Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority have unveiled the new “Signatures of Loudoun” exhibit at the Washington Dulles International Airport.
Fourteen photographic panels display a sampling of Loudoun’s most highly regarded architecture and landscape designs, including the RagingWire data center campus in Ashburn, the Morven Park Mansion in Leesburg and the Sunset Hills Vineyard in Purcellville. The panels reflect recent winners in the Signatures of Loudoun Design Excellence Awards program, which recognizes the links between Loudoun’s successful community and its high-quality architectural design efforts.
In explaining why MWAA chose to mount the “Signatures of Loudoun” display, Airport Manager Christopher Browne stated, “At Dulles International Airport we recognize the positive affect art can have on the traveling public. Art is a wonderful mechanism that leads to an even more enjoyable experience for passengers at our airport. These photographic panels provide a great addition to our robust arts program, and are an essential part in creating a welcoming environment for travelers.”
Speaking at the event, Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Chairman Scott K. York explained that the Loudoun-based airport is “Washington’s gateway to the nation.”
“We love that Washington Dulles International Airport is located right here in Loudoun County, and we are thrilled to have its millions of visitors see a little piece of Loudoun as they step off their planes,” York said.
The Signatures of Loudoun program is run by the Loudoun County Design Cabinet, a volunteer group of professional architects, landscape architects, engineers and planners sponsored by the Loudoun County Department of Economic Development. Design Cabinet Chairman Alan Hansen noted that the program is unique in that it acknowledges exceptional buildings nominated by the public. “We are honored to have these winners on display here for a global audience,” he added.
Buddy Rizer, acting director of the Loudoun County Department of Economic Development, says, “Loudoun has become an international business story, with more than 70 percent of the entire world’s Internet traffic flowing through Loudoun’s data centers every day. It’s appropriate to raise awareness of Loudoun County with business leaders flying to and from important meetings in the nation’s capital.”
The exhibit is on the Arrivals level of the airport near Baggage Claim 10. For more information about Loudoun Economic Development, call 1-(800)-LOUDOUN or go to biz.loudoun.gov.
