Loudoun Farmers Invited to Participate In Fall Farm Tour 2016
Loudoun County’s 2016 Fall Farm Tour will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, October 15-16. Farms on the tour are promoted to the public with a printed brochure distributed at various places around the county, and through web and social media sites. Any farmers who’d like to participate in this year’s tour should apply online at biz.loudoun.gov/farmtourapp. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. on August 11, 2016.
All types of rural businesses are invited to apply. Past Fall Farm Tours have encouraged the public to visit farms and pick their own produce; taste craft beverages and locally produced food; ride or feed farm animals, and enjoy tours, shopping, hay rides and demonstrations.
“Western Loudoun is the county’s agricultural business district, and part of our mission is to grow Loudoun’s agricultural economy,” says Economic Development Executive Director Buddy Rizer. “We use this annual event to help farm businesses by introducing new customers to them.”
Agricultural Development Officer Kellie Hinkle explained, “$37 million dollars of Loudoun-grown products are sold every year, and we’re working to top $40 million by 2020. Promoting Loudoun-grown products with this tour is one way to keep customers buying year-round.”
