Loudoun’s Fall Farm Tour October 15-16, 2016
Celebrate Loudoun’s thriving agricultural community during the 2016 Loudoun Fall Farm Tour. The tour runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, October 15 and 16. A map and descriptions of 56 participating farms and other venues is included in the Loudoun Fall Farm Tour brochure, available now at county libraries, community centers, and online at: LoudounFarms.org/FarmTour.
“Not only is the farm tour a terrific opportunity to support local businesses, but it’s a great experience to bring your friends and family and show them what Loudoun has to offer,” said Loudoun Economic Development’s Executive Director Buddy Rizer.
Venues will have special activities for the weekend, including educational exhibits, live music, farm animals, and local foods and beverages. Several new venues have been added to this year’s tour, including:
- Aldie Mill, Aldie Festival and Duck Race: antiques and crafts vendors, food, music, children’s activities, an art show, grinding demonstrations and mill tours.
- Fairbrook Farm: Cider pressing, hay rides and face-painting.
- Old Apple Valley Farms: How to make apple cider and corn husk flowers.
- Wagenburg Farm: Shade tree nursery with greenhouse. Pruning and planting demonstrations.
“It’s wonderful to get a behind-the-scenes look at how Loudoun’s hardworking farmers produce food for our community,” said Agricultural Development Officer Kellie Hinkle. “And the flavor of fresh-picked produce has to be tasted to be believed.”
Twenty of the participating locations are pet-friendly, and most are found along scenic drives in western Loudoun’s rolling countryside. More than 8,000 visitors are expected to take part in this free event.
