Purcellville Startups to Experience 1 Million Cups
Loudoun Economic Development is partnering with The Mason Enterprise Center-Leesburg on a special 1 Million Cups event on Wednesday, May 4 at 9 a.m. at the Train Station at 200 N. 21st Street in Purcellville. This is the first time the program has been held outside of its regular venue in Leesburg, in what organizers hope will become a quarterly road trip to various Loudoun locations.
The 1MC program gives local entrepreneurs the chance to present their startups to an informal gathering of peers, mentors, advisors and small business owners. Presenters get feedback on how to improve their potential for success. On May 4, the presenter will be Dan Hine of Crimson Fly, Digital Media sharing his new venture, The Loudoun Homeowner.
“1 Million Cups allows small business owners to gain peer feedback,” said Loudoun’s Small Business and Entrepreneurship Manager Vanessa Wagner. “By holding this program outside of our usual location, we hope to serve new entrepreneurs.”
1MC is an initiative started by the Kauffman Foundation that now takes place in 35 cities across the U.S. each week. It’s based on the premise that it takes a million cups of coffee to launch a successful business – in other words, making the one-on-one connections with potential partners, team members, investors and allied professionals that make or break a company’s growth.
“Loudoun got involved with 1MC to help new businesses get up and running faster,” said Loudoun Economic Development Executive Director Buddy Rizer. “We take some of the trial-and-error out of connecting entrepreneurs to the right people and the right information.”
