Winery 32 Is Loudoun’s 43rd
The Loudoun County, Virginia Department of Economic Development is pleased to announce the opening of Winery 32, located at 15066 Limestone School Road in Leesburg. The department actively worked with the owners throughout the development process from concept to reality, assisting with land use decisions, permitting, marketing concepts, and obtaining a Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control license. This Loudoun business is the county’s 43rd winery, and is valued at more than $800,000.
Owners Michael and Roxanne Moosher explain on their website how they came up with the winery’s unique name. They noticed that the 32-acre property came with 32 large stone planters, into which they planted 32 Gloria Peach trees. In addition, “The planting of our grape vines coincided with our 32nd wedding anniversary. The number 32 is just right,” the couple stated.
Winery 32’s initial offerings include a peach dessert wine and a peach-flavored vidal blanc, along with traditional wines such as chardonnay, chambourcin and merlot.
“Choosing Loudoun County for a new agricultural winery and vineyard was an easy decision,” Moosher said. “We found the farmlands of Loudoun County to be stunningly beautiful, coupled with the warm and welcoming agricultural community who are amazingly helpful. We are looking forward to serving the county in turn by creating more jobs and providing a great tourism venue to the public.”
Branded as “D.C.’s Wine Country,” Loudoun has more wineries than any other county in Virginia. The state has become fifth in the U.S. for wine grape production.
“Wineries are one of Loudoun’s most important industries, with an estimated $136 million economic impact for the county,” said Loudoun Economic Development Director Buddy Rizer.
Loudoun wineries not only impact the local economy through product sales to customers and retailers, but also by attracting visitors to the county for wine-tasting and culinary tours. Wine Enthusiast magazine named Loudoun “One of the 10 best wine travel destinations.”
Visit Loudoun’s research shows that 60 percent of winery visitors come from outside of Loudoun. Those who just come for the day spend more than $300 on their winery trip, and those who stay overnight spend almost $800.
